Cons:

Cannot be refinished

What is the difference between unfinished and pre-finished hardwood?
Unfinished hardwood flooring is installed before it is finished, which means it can be matched to existing or surrounding hardwood floors. Pre-finished hardwood flooring is stained and sealed prior to installation by the manufacturer.
Can I install hardwood flooring in any room of my house?
It is only recommended to install solid hardwood flooring above ground level due to the damage moisture can cause. Engineered hardwood can be installed in more places due to the manufacturing process creating a dimensionally stable product. Hardwood is not recommended for any room with a shower or bathtub.

Can damaged hardwood flooring be repaired?
Yes. Minor chips can be filled and color blended to match the surrounding wood. Scratches can be repaired with DIY touch up kits available at any local home improvement store. With larger issues whole boards can be replaced or the floors can be sanded down and refinished.
Can I float my hardwood floor over an existing floor?
You cannot float a solid hardwood floor as it must be nailed to a wooden sub-floor. However, engineered hardwood can be floated in most cases and even installed over in-floor radiant heating.
